Mun I (Archive)

^^ Craft Information - Launch Abort ^^

This is the first kerbed mission that will leave LKO and head for another stellar body, in this case our close neighbor Mun. The mission is only meant to orbit about Mun, but while they are there the two astronauts, Commander Bob and Captain Wehrtop, will also perform several key tasks. One will be to rendezvous with Munar Orbiter III and retrieve the scientific data it has been storing for several months now. They will then partially refuel the craft so it is capable of impacting Mun at a later date. They will also rendezvous with ComSat Mun I, which is in need of capacitors to become fully operational and allow the Munar comm satellites to lift up into higher orbits for better station holding. Although the mission is only scheduled to last a few days, almost a month of life support will keep the astronauts alive should a re-supply/rescue mission be required.

Shortly after SRB separation Mission Control confirmed the astronauts report that main engine throttle up was a "no go" and gave the order for the astronauts to active the Launch Escape System, which cleared the capsule from the rocket. It is now descending under three good chutes and we are awaiting splashdown and recovery.
