Mun III (Derelict) (Archive)

^^ Craft Information - Remote Control Established ^^

Almost a direct replacement of Mun I, the first attempt to put kerbals into orbit around Mun, Mun III features extra structural support within its cargo bay to prevent the craft from attempting to shake itself apart during ascent, which is what doomed Mun I. The mission is scheduled to last 3 days, during which the astronauts will orbit Mun 12 times and visit 4 of the 5 satellites currently in orbit around it. For their first stop at Munar Orbiter III, valuable science data will be collected for transportation back home and a little bit of fuel will be pumped over to allow it to serve as an impactor in the future. Next all 3 ComSats will be serviced with monopropellant refueling and an additional dish and capacitors for ComSat Mun I to allow it to operate in a higher orbit.

The crew has now transferred over to the new Mun III vessel and this craft has been taken over by operators at mission control. It does still retain some resources, so it will remain in orbit as a potential life vessel for any future missions that may require it. Until then, it has been recataloged as debris #20
